This product is still being marketed by the manufacturer for $99.00 . Here at Amazon it's $89.00 I saw a special offer and bought it from an outfit in Carrollton, Texas for $25.00 . I tried to use it with my 7-year old Windows XP computer and it froze the computer. I called the manufacturer's customer service and they pointed out that my computer didn't have quite as much memory as the product called for. There was some talk about my buying a new computer, which I needed anyway. So I went ahead and bought one (and I'm very happy with it.) This is a much more powerful computer running Windows 7. But once again the machine wouldn't work probably. So I called customer service again and they said it wouldn't run with Windows 7 and had no idea when, if ever, it ever would!!!! I strongly urge against buying this product. I also note that the Amazon listing doesn't warn customers that it won't work with Windows 7.

The drivers for this device will not load on my 64 bit Vista system. I cannot download updated drivers as the download link on the ion-video web site does not work. The drivers will however load on my older computer. This is a basic VCR that will work well enough for transferrign my home videos to digital format.

If you have a library of home video on VHS, this device works very well for direct downloading for editing on your computer through the USB port. However, I would suggest that you use other software to burn and add titles/chapters to your DVD's. In addition, tracking of the tape is an issue at times on this unit. Overall, it works o.k for the price. I don't get RF signal interference noise recorded on my downloaded soundtrack, which is and has always been a problem with the shielding of VCR's. If you live near a radio station tower, you know the drill!!

I bought the Ion VCR to PC Converter hopefully to copy many of my VHS tapes to my PC and then choose which ones I wanted to copy to a DVD. Some of the VHS tapes are as old as 20 years old. They still play reasonably well on a VCR, however, when I put one of the tapes in the Ion converter and start copying to my PC, I get mostly snow and garbled sound. The tracking buttons did not to help the situation. I was able to copy a couple of movies over but they were from newer tapes. I tried to clean the heads with a cleaning cassette but that did nothing. The concept for copying the tapes is good and the software is very easy to load and use, however I am very disappointed as to how poorly the converter works. If you have old tapes to copy, I don't recommend this product.

I purchased the ION VCR 2 PC converter so I could transfer my old VHS tapes to DVDs. The unit arrived double boxed and very well packaged from J&R. Setup on my Windows XP Professional SP3 was quick and flawless, and I was soon converting my tapes to DVD. The quality of the DVD is about the same as the original VHS. The software is intuitive and I quickly learned how to use it by exploring the menus. This unit does what it promises and I'm pleased with the results, given the age of the VHS tapes (up to 25 years old). I would buy it again.

I have owned this product for serveral years now. I recommend it very highly. It's one of those rare products that is as good as they say (perhaps even better). What it does: - pitch generation (like an electronic pitch pipe); - pitch detection (even from voices or in noisy environments); --- this is useful in tuning a guitar or in checking vocal pitch when singing; - chord display (multiple simultaneous notes); - adjustable A frequency (tuning is usually based on A=440 hertz but not always); - displays the note letter (C, B, A#, etc); - displays the 'percentage of error' (difference from the nearest pitch); - displays the exact frequency; - has a pause button so you can freeze the display and examine it closely; - displays a green indicator line and a green dot where the pitch is; - displays a yellow circle around the green dot if the pitch is within 25% +/-; - displayes a bar on the side that shows whether you are over or under the nearest pitch; - displays a pink spot in the center that shows the clarity or the timber of the tone. For singers this shows if your vocal tone is clear or fuzzy and how clear or fuzzy. PhoneTuner is very fast, very accurate, and very cool (if you are into singing and you need some help). You may be wondering what's up with the spiral display. it turns out this is a very logical display, though it takes some time to get used to it. The reason for the spiral is that as you go up the scale, the distance between each note increases. The spiral is a very natural way to display this. I got it because I had recently joined a barbershop chorus and I needed something to help me train my ear. This was the perfect tool and it worked with my Pocket PC. My only complaint is that they have not updated the product since December of 2003. The current version is 2.2.2 and is only available for Pocket PC. It would be really great if the maker would create a version for the iPhone. You can download and install it and it will work in Trial mode which only works for 60 seconds at a time. This is enough to see if it works and to test it's value. Honestly, this is a huge bargain. You'll see if you try it. It's so good that I may buy a new Pocket PC just to run it since my ailing old PPC is dying. But I would rather get an iPhone version if at all possible. You can learn more here: [...] Enjoy!
